Sudbury is a bustling and beautiful town in the Stour Valley of the English county of Suffolk, and is a fantastic place in which to stay for a cottage break with your loved ones. This quaint market town is home to a fine range of restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars, as well as high street shops and vintage boutiques, and is surrounded by beautiful, sweeping countryside with endless lanes and walking paths which are wonderful for strolling along and soaking up this incredible place. True to its status as a market town, Sudbury hosts a bi-weekly market in front of St. Peter’s Church in the centre of town and has stalls with fresh produce sourced locally.
A cottage or apartment based in Sudbury ensures that part of each day of your holiday includes walks and glimpses of Sudbury's historic buildings. One feature to look out for is a fountain on the north wall of St Peter's Church which together with a horse trough, was mentioned in the children's tale of a 'hundred and one dalmations' by Dodie Smith. A plaque commemorating the author is in Market Hill.
Holidays are exciting when there are lots of possible activities and sightseeing options. There is a host of things to see and do in Sudbury. Sudbury is home to a theatre on the riverside, the Quay Theatre, which hosts a varied programme of exciting performances and productions. For those who love the water, you can hop aboard one of the electric-powered boats which start from near to this theatre and travel down the river for a couple of miles to the small village of Great Henny. Lovers of the great outdoors will enjoy The Valley Walk which is a footpath and cycling route that begins at the beautiful Sudbury water meadows and finished at the Long Melford Country Park. Spectacular views of the surrounding countryside can be had when taking this walk.
One of the handsome classical buildings in Sudbury is the library which used to be the Corn Exchange.
As well as shopping through the narrow alleys and streets of Sudbury, visitors can go to the Kingfisher Leisure Centre which is home to a swimming pool with a slide and wave machine. If you happen to be in the town in late May you can pop along to the charity music festival, LeeStock, which is held close by to the town centre.
